Real Estate Tips
THEN AND NOW -
THE INTERNET AND THE SPEED OF COMMUNICATION
Today is 10/12/09 - I wrote this piece over 14 years ago - At the time it was a prediction.
Today it is reality
It has been suggested because of the "internet" that sooner or later buyers and sellers will not need a real estate agent to find each other. If this is true then what will be the job of the real estate agent in the future?
In most transactions the buyer always wants the best price possible and the
sellers always want the best price possible. Even if the buyer and seller are
friends their interests are at opposite ends. Sometimes a buffer between the
buyer and seller is very helpful.
Third party negotiation is a valid concept. The real estate agent in the future
will offer their skills as a negotiator and counselor. The old adage "you can't
beat a person at their own game" has a lot of merit.
Buying or selling real estate is the largest investment decision most Americans
make. Most people will make these decisions only a few times in their life.
Doesn't it make sense to seek the advice and consul of a professional?
Most people have a family doctor, they have a dentist, they have a lawyer, they
even have a mechanic and a plumber they use regularly. Why not have a real
estate adviser also ?
Generally speaking, people are not looking for someone to sell them something.
They're looking for someone to guide them through the real estate buying or
selling process.
Some individuals think in terms of win / lose. In order for them to win someone
else must lose, others think in terms of win / win. A win / win attitude implies
that everybody can benefit in a transaction.
Sometimes people feel they must be ready to buy or sell before they talk to an
agent. Often this is not in their best interests. During the process of thinking
over your options the advice of a professional is invaluable. Seek council all
along the way especially at the very beginning. The direction you take at the
beginning will determine the rest of the journey.
Someone said that knowledge is learning from your mistakes, wisdom is learning
from someone else's mistakes.
I like working with win / win people so give me a call for a no obligation
interview. Let's find out if what I can offer is of interest to you.
